Proposal Endorsements from CoSA and SAA Groups Due October 19

Although the Call for Proposals for the Joint Annual Meeting of CoSA and SAA is now closed, CoSA component groups and SAA board, committee, section, roundtable, or working group chairs/conveners are invited to submit endorsement of up to two proposals directly to the program co-chairs via conference@archivists.org by October 19. Please include the following information: Session Title, Group Name, and Group Chair. Endorsements are another factor in the Committee’s deliberations; they are not required and do not guarantee acceptance.

Clarification Being Sought After Georgia Governor Says Archives “Will Stay Open”

September 19, 2012—While issuing his annual Georgia Archives Month proclamation today, Governor Nathan Deal said, “We’re still working on our budget proposals right now, but the archives will stay open,” according to an article in the Clayton News Daily. Efforts are underway to get clarification and specifics on this announcement from the Governor and the Secretary of State. Meanwhile, advocacy efforts by individuals and organizations within the state and nationwide continue.

Georgia Threatens Closure of State Archives

September 17—The Georgia Secretary of State has announced that the Georgia Archives will be effectively closed to the public beginning on November 1. Read SAA’s letter of protest to the governor. Grants Available for Hurricane Isaac Recovery

The National Disaster Recovery Fund for Archives provides grants of up to $2,000 to assist repositories in recovery of damaged or at-risk archival materials. To apply for a grant or donate to the fund, click here.

Delegates to the International Council on Archives’ Annual General Meeting in Brisbane, Australia, in August adopted unanimously “Principles of Access to Archives,” a document developed under the leadership of former SAA President Trudy Huskamp Peterson. Read the document here.
