               About the arts, later retitled Barbaralee Diamonstein
                  and--, was a weekly interview show on the arts,
                  which Ms. Diamonstein-Spielvogel produced and
                  hosted. The series was broadcast on WNYC-TV, Channel
                  31 in New York City.
               Five of the series in this collection, American
                  architecture now, Fashion--the inside story, Inside
                  New York's art world, Interior design--the new
                  freedom, and Visions and images--American
                  photographers on photography, were courses given by
                  Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel at the Parsons
                  School of Design from the spring term of 1980 to the
                  spring term of 1983. She started Inside New York's
                  art world in 1975 at the New School for Social
                  Research. They were part of the Van Day Truex
                  Memorial Lecture Series, which were co-presented
                  with the New School for Social Research. Inside New
                  York's art world was distributed by the
                  Castelli-Sonnabend Gallery in New York City.
               Ms. Diamonstein-Spielvogel developed four of the
                  series with ABC Video Enterprises into television
                  programs which were broadcast on the Arts &
                  Entertainment Network. Visions and images was
                  broadcast during 1980-1982; Interior design--the new
                  freedom, 1981-1983; Fashion--the inside story,
                  1984-1985; American architecture now, 1984-1985. She
                  produced Handmade in America with ABC Video
                  Enterprises, which was broadcast on the Arts &
                  Entertainment Network in 1981. Inside New York's art
                  world was shown on Manhattan Cable Channel 10 per
                  paperwork in M/B/RS Subjects file
                  (Diamonstein-Spielvogel file), although WNYC-TV,
                  Channel 31 appears on many of the videocassette
                  labels.
               Some of the 1/2 in. and 3/4 in. videotapes have two
                  episodes on them. DLC
               This collection is mainly comprised of interview shows
                  and other works which focus on the arts. The guests
                  are prominent, mainly American, architects, artists,
                  fashion designers, interior designers, and
                  photographers. Other guests include leading actors,
                  choreographers and dancers, civic leaders,
                  musicians, performers, and writers. There is also a
                  large group of miscellaneous materials. Some of
                  these are episodes of series on which Ms.
                  Diamonstein-Spielvogel worked (e.g., Lamp unto my
                  feet) and others are interviews of her, (e.g., The
                  today show). Some of these materials pertain to the
                  career of Carl Spielvogel, Ms.
                  Diamonstein-Spielvogel's husband, such as interviews
                  on business programs.
               The audio materials in this collection are serviced in
                  the Recorded Sound Reference Center of the Motion
                  Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division of
                  the Library of Congress.
               Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel is a writer,
                  television interviewer/producer, educator, and
                  community activist. She has dedicated her career to
                  the arts. She has written numerous articles and
                  books on many facets of the arts. She has played a
                  leading role in the preservation of historic
                  buildings in New York City and across the U.S. She
                  was director of the Dept. of Cultural Affairs in New
                  York City. She has worked for and served on the
                  boards of numerous cultural institutions, including
                  the Anthology Film Archives, New York Landmarks
                  Preservation Foundation, National Gallery of Art,
                  and U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

                  is available in the Motion Picture and Television
                  Reading Room at the Library of Congress.
               Many of 1/2 in. and some of the 3/4 in. materials were
                  viewed for identification purposes.
