Elsie Janis (March 16, 1889 – February 26, 1956) was an American singer, songwriter, actress, and screenwriter. Entertaining the troops during World War I immortalized her as "the sweetheart of the AEF" (American Expeditionary Force).

Judging from a quick skim of NYT hits, she was in the habit of sailing to London most summers and sometimes spent extended periods there.

found it.. August 1, 1915, New York Evening Telegram, Elsie Janis arrived aboard the St. Louis, and spoke of her work in London and upcoming starring role in "The Missing Link" at Daly's Theatre.
