Notice how this photograph is no much more natural and candid as compared to the earlier Daguerreotype. Exposures were far shorter and able to capture a fraction of a moment.
Also people: Please stop commenting with disrespect upon Abraham Lincoln with your 2009 P.C mushbrains. [This was happening more so on Mr. Lincoln's other photos posted by this institution]

It just looks like he is swimming in his clothes. The pictures of him always seem so unreal to me. To me he looks as if he would much rather be some place else and is being as patient as possible. The look on his face (to me) reminds me of "this is the last one right" faces my kids give me.

I got news for all you gossips...Lincoln wasn't gay. I've got 35 books on the man and he was not. The people who believe that are the people who their news from the National Enquirer. He had a wife and 4 children. The rumor started because he shared a bed with a man when he was in his 20s. There were also other men living in that same house who shared beds. It wasn't scandalous back then. The guy he shared a bed with told him where he could find a prostitute. His law partner for 17 yrs said that Lincoln feared he caught syphillis from a woman.

Just saw this for the first time today. Mr. Lincoln does look like he is in a happy mood. I think this is the best relaxed posed photo I have ever seen of him.
For you people who have bad things to say about this past president, say your words to your parents. Hiding behind your PC is just a cowardly thing to do. Freedom of speach is granted to idiots and cowards too!

Dianakk....you hit the nail right on the head,he was slightly amused that day for there were lots of flies buzzing around,that gave Mr Gardner a hard time trying to get the right shots,Gardner disposed lots of shots that day because of the flies,and could only save six of them,I have one of the disposed,with a fly on his cheek and one eye closed !!
