    That was my first impression too.
    Its difficult to prove either way, but statiscally this is probably a young man who hasn't developed any real masculine facial features due to his young age. Its not impossible it could be a female though.

    I agree, know from reading that many women enlisted in the service to fight, and/or be with their husband or sweetheart.

    Woman!They did falsify there identifications and served.Why?Same as now.Probably to earn and send money home!
