[Portrait of George Brunis and Tony Parenti, Jimmy Ryan's (Club), New York, N.Y., ca. Aug. 1946]

1 negative : b&w ; 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 in.

Caption from Down Beat: Georg Brunis with Tony Parenti. Georg must have been warned by his favorite astrologer to remember that Dixieland music is march music. So a couple of times a night, Brunis and cohorts take off from their stands at Jimmy Ryan's, march past the bar, out in the street and back to home plate, by way of the ladies room.

Two excellent New Orleans jazz veterans.

I've heard stories that Parenti was also an excellent cook.

Brunies was an amazing player, but full of superstitions. He refused to learn how to read music, since he had an older brother who died soon after learning to read music. In his later years he changed the spelling of his name to "Georg Brunis" in the belief that losing the "e"s would increase his luck through numerology.
