Could Parenthood Protect Against Premature Death?

Parents may attribute many of their gray hairs to the stress of child rearing, but they may be willing to overlook the cosmetic inconvenience once they learn about the link between parenthood and lifespan. A study of more than 21,000 couples seeking fertility treatment found that childless women were four times more likely to die prematurely than those with children. Childless men were about twice as likely as dads to die early. Researchers note that while the findings do not indicate a causative relationship between childlessness and premature death, there is clear evidence of an elevated mortality rate among those who desire but are unable to have children. Recording Industry Association of American Sues Napster (1999)

Shortly after Napster was founded in 1999, the popular file-sharing service was hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The trial gave Napster so much publicity that usage of the service increased, despite RIAA's claim that Napster users were breaking the law by downloading copyrighted music for free.
