Staff from the Office of Communications met with Laura Howe, Vice President of Public Affairs (second from the left) for the American Red Cross and toured their Digital Operations Center in Washington, DC. The team was there to learn how the Red Cross uses the Center to sift through masses of social media data generated during emergencies to identify trends and hot spots and even to reach out directly to those in need.
