Choice Magazine Listening goes digital

Choice Magazine Listening (CML), which features audio versions of selected unabridged articles, fiction, and poems from approximately one hundred leading magazines, is transitioning from cassettes to digital flash-memory cartridges, which are compatible with NLS digital talking-book machines.

The transition will occur over the next two years. Subscribers to CML on digital cartridge must return the cartridge—postage-free, using the same container in which it was delivered—before being sent the next issue.

To prepare for the transition, CML changed its distribution schedule from bimonthly to quarterly. Each issue now contains twelve hours of listening. The summer 2011 issue features selections from magazines such as the New Yorker, Outside, and National Geographic.

Visually impaired readers receive CML free of charge. CML also is available on BARD, the NLS Braille and Audio Reading Download, https://nlsbard.loc.gov/. To learn more call 888-724-6423 or visit www.choicemagazinelistening.org. external link symbol

Free document converter available

Readers may convert digital text documents into audio or braille files quickly and free of charge through the award-winning RoboBraille service. Documents are e-mailed or—new in 2011—uploaded to the RoboBraille website, www.robobraille.org. Within minutes, RoboBraille returns the document in the specified format—an MP3 audio file, for example, or a contracted or uncontracted braille file. Twenty file types are supported, and no special software or equipment is required.
