      Emilie Bigelow Hapgood was the daughter of Anson Bigelow, a Chicago banker. During WWI, she was president of the Stage Society, and in 1917 the founder and leader of the "Circle of Negro War Relief" The Hapgoods married in 1896, divorced in 1915. They had a daughter, Ruth. Emilie died in Rome, 1930, and was buried in the Protestant cemetery there.
