      Julia Appleton Bird (1894-1983), daughter of Randolph Morgan Appleton and Helen Kortwright Mixter Appleton; middle of three daughters; raised in Massachusetts; married Charles Sumner Bird Jr. in 1917, just before he began his service in WWI; she traveled, and collected art.

      She had three sons, Charles III (b. 1925), Christopher and David (b. 1928, twins); this is David's 2007 obituary:
