      LEELANAW SS was a American cargo steamer of 1,924grt built in 1887 by Palmers. Jarrow, England as the British cargo steamer EARNWELL SS for Earnwell S.S. Co. Ltd., (Earnshaw), Newcastle, England. In 1898 she was renamed LEELANAW SS when purchased by J. Jerome.

      On the 25th July 1915 she was torpedoed by German submarine U-41 when 60 miles NW of Orkney and on route from Arkhangelsk for Belfast carrying a cargo of flax and hemp.
