\r\n The online presentation of the Carol M. Highsmith\r\n Archive features photographs of landmark buildings and\r\n architectural renovation projects in Washington, D.C., and\r\n throughout the United States. The first 23 groups of \r\n photographs contain more than 2,500 images and date from \r\n 1980 to 2005, with many views in color as well as \r\n black-and-white. Extensive coverage of the Library of Congress Jefferson Building\r\n was added in 2007. The archive is expected to grow to more\r\n than 100,000 photographs covering all of the United\r\n States.\r\n
\r\n\r\n Highsmith, a distinguished and richly-published American\r\n photographer, has donated her work to the Library of\r\n Congress since 1992. Starting in 2002, Highsmith provided\r\n scans or photographs she shot digitally with new donations\r\n to allow rapid online access throughout the world. Her\r\n generosity in dedicating the rights to the American people\r\n for copyright free access also makes this Archive a very\r\n special visual resource.\r\n
