Fine reportage shot - have you got a dust problem with your transparencies?

Classic and ominous. Let's hear it for the LoC sharing with Creative Commons. I used this with a draft lesson plan on historical responsibility for industrial emissions.

Crop it closer to a smoke stacks, too much smoke towards a sky.

So is this about the photo or the pollution? Is this a "Great Shot!" or a statement of how we continue to ignore the air quality problems of OUR world? Even though the photo is 60 plus years old this happens in todays world.

As crappy as the subject is (global warming, etc, like everyone has said), this is a GREAT picture!!

The grain of salt I would take this with: depending on the city and its economic stability and given the USA's posture in the war In 1942 this was still considered progress.

  29. photonut-mi (47 months ago | reply)

looks like a barbeque in progress,
if second hand smoke is so bad why do other countries
desire this same kind of smoke stack.

This was taken well before the American manufacturing was sent to Asia and we all went on a paper trading orgy.
