Online Ukrainian Directories
at the Library of Congress
The Library of Congress has digitized five Ukrainian telephone directories from 1935 -1949 and made them available to the public via the links below, either through "page view" display or searchable and downloadable .pdf. Searching is not entirely reliable, and thus results should be confirmed manually by turning to the appropriate page. The .pdf files also have bookmarks pointing to each lettered section. These directories are also linked in the corresponding entry in the Library of Congress catalog.
1. Spysok abonentiv Kyivs'koi mis'koi telefonnoi sitky A.T.S. 1935 rik.
[Kyїv] : Vyd. Kyїvs'koi tel'stantsiї.
This residential and organizational telephone directory of Kyiv was based on data as of September 25, 1935 and published later that year. Its 136 pages are bound in a beige hardcover. The first 48 pages instruct readers how to use the directory, describe the Kyiv telephone network, and provide indexes to street name and telephone number changes. Pages 49-71 consist of a residential directory in alphabetical order by last name. Pages 72-114 provide a listing of businesses arranged by product or service, e.g. pharmacies, banks, hospitals. Pages 115-127 include listings of emergency and other important or useful numbers, a rate schedule, and rules and regulations. Advertisements are included throughout the book, particularly toward the end.
2. Spisok abonentov Voloshilovgradskoi gorodskoi telefonnoi seti na 1939 god.

The Library's copy of this residential and organizational telephone directory of Voroshilovgrad from 1939 is a photocopy, with two pages from the original directory copied onto each sheet. Its 96 numbered and 27 unnumbered pages are kept together in an expandable folder. The first 10 as well as the last 17 unnumbered pages consist of advertisements. Pages 1-22 provide information about the Voroshilovgrad telephone network, how to use the directory, rules and legal rights, some often used and useful general numbers, and pricing for phone calls. Pages 23-76 are devoted to listing businesses arranged by product or service, e.g. pharmacies, banks, hospitals. Pages 77-96 consist of a residential directory in alphabetical order by last name.
3. Spisok abonentov Sevastopol'skoi gorodskoi avtomaticheskoi telefonnoi stantsii. 1941. Sevastopol' : Narodnyi komissariat sviazi SSSR.
This 1941 residential and organizational telephone directory of Sevastopol' is also a photocopy, with two pages from the original directory copied onto each sheet. Its 70 pages are kept together in an expandable folder. Pages 1-26 describe the Sevastopol' telephone network, instruct how to use the directory, lists rules and legal rights, provides some often used and useful general numbers and prices for phone calls. A residential directory in alphabetical order by last name can be found on pages 27-36. Pages 37-52 provide a listing of businesses arranged by product or service, e.g. pharmacies, banks, hospitals. Advertisements are found from page 53 to the end.
4. Spisok abonentov Odesskoi ATS po sostoianiiu na 1 dekabria 1948 goda.
Odessa: Morskoi transport.
This residential and organizational telephone directory of Odessa is based on data as of December 1948. Its 178 pages are bound in green fabric hardcover. The first 36 pages contain a description of Odessa's telephone network and an index to organizational part with respective page numbers, with instructions on how to use the directory,. Also included is information about rules and regulations, price listings for particular calls, and a listing of emergency and other important numbers. Pages 37-82 consist of a residential directory in alphabetical order by last name, pages 83-155 a listing of businesses arranged by product or service, e.g. pharmacies, banks, hospitals, while advertisements fill the pages from 160 to the end.
5. Spisok abonentov L'vovskoi ATS. 1949.
L'vov : L'vovskoe oblastnoe upravlenie sviazi.
This Library's copy of the 1949 residential and organizational telephone directory of L'viv is a photographic reproduction, with each sheet containing two pages from the original directory. It is bound in an expandable folder. The first 28 pages contain information about L'viv telephone network, how to use this directory, rules and legal rights, some frequently used numbers, and pricing for phone calls. Pages 29-136 list businesses arranged by product or service, e.g. pharmacies, banks, hospitals. Pages 137-240 is residential directory in alphabetical order by last name. Pages 241-254 provide listings for emergency medical care and a listing of the city's streets ordered by local region. Advertisements are found from page 255 until the end.
