The Mayo Clinic Referring Physician Service (RPS) is your primary contact for scheduling appointments and arranging telephone consultations with Mayo Clinic staff members. The RPS will help answer your questions and work to resolve any concerns about Mayo services.
Mayo Clinic's goal is to provide prompt service and communication of results for the patients you refer to us. We take care to reinforce your role as your patient's primary physician and our role as a consultant.

Patients with urgent medical or surgical needs are given priority in the appointment system. Appointments for nonurgent medical problems are scheduled several days to several weeks in advance.
In general, pediatric services are offered only at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
The RPS can obtain medical record information on any of your patients.
Summary report
Our physicians will forward a summary of diagnostic reports and treatments to the referring physician as soon as it becomes available. If you have not been contacted by your patient's Mayo Clinic physician, contact the RPS for assistance.
Physicians in most tertiary care and surgical specialties at Mayo Clinic are available to assist you, free of charge, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Simply call the RPS to arrange.

The RPS will make arrangements to admit or transfer one of your patients to a Mayo Clinic hospital, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Hospital policy requires you to call Mayo Clinic in advance of the patient's arrival for direct hospital admission.
