NLS: Overseas Outlook

January to June 2007; Volume 30, Number 1

Digital books

Some patrons have inquired about the release of talking books in digital format.  NLS has scheduled the digital talking books to be available at the same time as the digital-talking book machines beginning in 2008.

Shipment of books overseas

Books for overseas patrons are shipped as free matter (surface mail) not as first-class or air mail.  They, therefore, may take several weeks to a few months to reach patrons.  Patrons should consider this when ordering books and request enough books to last until the next shipment arrives.

Magazines

Magazines shipped to patrons do not need to be returned to NLS.  They can be discarded like the paper editions.

Requests for cassette players

Patrons needing replacement cassette players should send their requests immediately via air mail or e-mail to the overseas librarian.  Patrons who wish to receive their machines by FedEx must supply a telephone number for the carrier to contact them for delivery.

Sending book order forms

When sending book order forms to the overseas librarian, patrons should mark their choices clearly and legibly.  Please do not send order forms and other correspondence to our contractors in Melbourne, Florida, or the Multistate Center West in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Send ALL correspondence directly to the overseas librarian's address to receive prompt service.

Minibibliography

Each issue of Overseas Outlook includes a bibliography on a subject that may be of interest to our patrons.  This issue features a minibibliography on diabetes from the year 2000.  To receive any of the books in this bibliography, complete the order form at the end of the newsletter and return it to the overseas librarian.
