In collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 35 YES Alumni Bangladesh volunteers organized workshops in 7 high schools and took to the streets of Dhaka to observe Global Handwashing Day on October 15-16. The volunteers directly trained more than 1800 students on personal hygiene and handwashing. On the streets of Dhaka, the volunteers distributed handwashing soaps to food vendors, while making them understand the importance of hygiene and cleanliness, and demonstrating proper handwashing techniques. A rally was also organized to create awareness among the general public.

  24. Millions of girls around the world face many challenges and barriers in their lives every day, which limit their ability to reach their full potential. The UN has established the “International Day of the Girl Child” (October 11) to help draw the world’s attention to recognize girls’ rights and the unique issues faced by them around the world. The American Center and USAID Bangladesh celebrated this important day's inaugural year at the EMK Center with children from USAID's basic education program PROTEEVA, and Room to Read – along with everyone's favorite Tuktuki and Halum from Sisimpur! — at Edward M Kennedy Center, EMK.
