Frederick Clarence Stilson

Thanks to his experience in railroad construction, Frederick Stilson was assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers in World War I, supervising road and rail repair in France. His memoir, That Other War, is as much travelogue as war history, offering detailed descriptions of the French countryside and cities Stilson saw during his leave time. Frederick Stilson's sons, Malcolm and Warren, both served in World War II. Malcolm tells their tales in a separate Veterans History Project story.
