During the Vietnam War, Patricia Lala corresponded with Marines she met through school, friends, and a letter-writing club. While married to Vince Pugliese, she became a member of the local Junior Women's Club and began writing to many Marines stationed with the 3rd Marine Division. What is different and notable in the collection is the voice of protest of the Vietnam era, and a clear change in society's mores. What is familiar from our accounts of all wars, is how important correspondence is to all troops, even when they do not know the sender.
