A look at the lives of Pete and Debbie a few years after the events of Knocked Up.
Director:
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: One of the smartest ideas Judd Apatow has made since he segued into super-producer/occasional director mode was promoting the supporting characters from his best comic environment to their own movie. Pete and Debbie and Jason (Jason Segel) were the true stars of Knocked Up; and I'd make a needless argument that Leslie Mann is funnier than KU and Bridesmaids combined.

Certificate R   -   Action | Drama | History | Thriller

Metascore: 95/100 (26 reviews)
A chronicle of the decade-long hunt for al-Qaeda terrorist leader Osama bin Laden after the September 2001 attacks, and his death at the hands of the Navy S.E.A.L. Team 6 in May, 2011.
Director:
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: Kathryn Bigelow's never known the level of controversy her follow-up to The Hurt Locker has generated. Even before cameras rolled on the recreation of the events leading up to the assassination of Osama bin Laden, a government watchdog group has filed a lawsuit against the CIA and the Department of Defense since details of the reported meeting between the agencies, Bigelow, and writer Mark Boal have not been released via the Freedom of Information Act. Seems like the filmmakers have been privy to classified information. And that situation is old news when compared to the early critical reactions, which range from laudatory to damning. It's the sort of real-world drama the industry and those who write about it could mutually benefit from, a reminder of when American films used to resonate beyond our desire for entertainment.

Certificate PG-13   -   Action | Crime | Drama

Metascore: 62/100 (9 reviews)
A homicide investigator digs deeper into a case involving a trained military sniper who shot five random victims.
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: Sure the title of the movie is akin to the "Tug Toner", but Tom Cruise's reunion with Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote and produced Valkyrie marks the beginning of creative marriage between star and filmmaker: McQuarrie wrote the All You Need Is Kill screenplay and just might write and direct the fifth M:I outing. But here McQuarrie takes a second turn behind the camera as director of the adaptation of Lee Child's novel, which has been on the Paramount lot since 2008. It's a tall order to make a movie as universally entertaining as M:I4, but if the world embraces Cruise as homicide investigator Jack Reacher, there's a bounty of other Reacher adventures from which to choose. But this will be the only one bold enough to cast Werner Herzog as the villain.

Metascore: 51/100 (13 reviews)
As inventor Andy Brewster is about to embark on the road trip of a lifetime, a quick stop at his mom's house turns into an unexpected cross-country voyage with her along for the ride.
Director:
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: Reviews indicate that a subdued Seth Rogen and a hammy Barbra Streisand make for one familiar and unwelcoming road trips in some time. At first we thought it would be a coup for Seth to get his movie mom to take a hit on camera, but now we're more focused on what exactly is going on with his career choices.

- [3D re-release]

Certificate G   -   Animation | Adventure | Comedy | Family | Fantasy

Metascore: 78/100 (34 reviews)
Monsters generate their city's power by scaring children, but they are terribly afraid themselves of being contaminated by children, so when one enters Monstropolis, top scarer Sulley finds his world disrupted.
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: Sulley & Mike return to the big screen in 3D to reintroduce themselves before we go back in time to their early days at Monsters University this June. This also reminds us of the time when people were wondering when and if Pixar would ever falter creatively.

  -   Fantasy

Two young people journey through the dreamlike worlds of Cirque du Soleil to find each other.
Director:
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: Seems like producer James Cameron and director Andrew Adamson are hedging their bets on Cirque du Soleil luring in family audiences seeking an alternative from standard holiday-season films this year. The first trailer ruled. Is the early closing of Iris -- the expensive Los Angeles-based Cirque production that was supposed to run for a decade -- any indication of box-office doom?

Certificate PG-13   -   Action | Drama | Thriller

Metascore: 75/100 (15 reviews)
An account of a family caught, with tens of thousands of strangers, in the mayhem of one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time.
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: I've had my eye on Juan Antonio Bayona's English-language debut because I love projects that maintain a low profile throughout their production. While sensitive to the traumatizing real-world event that inspired his story of a family working to survive a natural disaster, it's the scope of the visual effects and the presence of actual-real lead actors that have me stoked for a hopefully thoughtful action/drama.

Young writer Sal Paradise has his life shaken by the arrival of free-spirited Dean Moriarty and his girl, Marylou. As they travel across the country, they encounter a mix of people who each impact their journey indelibly.
Director:
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: It's been almost ten years since The Motorcycle Diaries -- fifteen since Central Station! -- and all the while Walter Salles has spent his non-directing time championing projects by other South American filmmakers. Now comes his take on Jack Kerouac's enduring novel - a reunion for Salles and Diaries screenwriter Jose Rivera - with a cast worthy of a recent Soderbergh movie, a burden of weighty expectations, and Kristen Stewart embroiled in Marylou-adjacent man troubles. Fortunately, in this case, Stewart doesn't need to atone for her behavior with Twilighters.

Set in suburban New Jersey the 1960s, a group of friends form a rock band and try to make it big.
Director:
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: While the premise doesn't exactly stoke my interest, David Chase's character-writing ability is evident in some of today's best television programs, and his emotional scenarios are never strained or false. The only thing that bums me out is no role for Drea de Matteo.

Certificate PG-13   -   Drama | Romance

Metascore: 93/100 (17 reviews)
Georges and Anne are in their eighties. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, who is also a musician, lives abroad with her family. One day, Anne has an attack. The couple's bond of love is severely tested.
Director:

The Buzz: "Leave it to Michael Haneke to take a topic as enfeebled as the onset of old age and give it an almost urgent and dangerous edge. The once beautiful accidents of nature, Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva have become exquisite works of art. A measured but gratifying work." -- Keith Simanton
