Harry Kellar (1849-1922) was a dominant force in American magic in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In 1907, Kellar was named the first "Dean of American Magicians," before retiring from the stage in 1908. He became famous for his self-decapitation effect and advancing the levitation illusion. The Prints and Photographs Division has over 140 magic posters, most from the turn of the century, depicting magicians and their various acts.
