    NYTimes reported in 1913:

"HEMPSTEAD, L.I., May 22. -- The townsfolk here are waiting with much curiosity for the suffrage pageant which Gen. Rosalie Jones has arranged for next Saturday afternoon. On that day those interested in the suffrage cause, will march from Mineola to this place. At the trolley junction the parade will be reviewed by Assemblyman O'Keefe and officials of Nassau County."

Two days later, also in the New York Times:

"Hempstead, N.Y., May 24. -- Three miles of public highway between Mineola and Hempstead were crowded this afternoon with a long line of automobiles from all parts of Nassau County as they followed the suffrage pageant, in which 500 women and a few men marched as enthusiastic upholders of the cause."

The term "Suffragettes" identified the British contingent in the woman's suffrage struggle. In the USA at that time they were called "Suffragists."

Wystan: Thank you for your comment! While the caption cards for the Bain Collection do use the term 'suffragettes' as a subject heading, the Library of Congress now uses 'suffragists'. We will adjust the descriptive information accordingly since this is a title (indicated by the square brackets) devised by our cataloging staff.
