To use any Library of Congress reading room, you must show a Library-issued reader identification card (see Reader Registration). For detailed explanations of each reading room and general Library procedures, consult the Library's Web site at <http://www.loc.gov/rr>.

Access and use for the Recorded Sound Section: To listen to materials located in the Recorded Sound Section, patrons are first required to make a listening appointment at least one week in advance. For access to reference materials located in the Recorded Sound Reference Center such as discographies, reference books, and the NBC History Files, an appointment is not necessary.

Listening to recorded sound collections is restricted to research of a specific nature leading toward a publicly available work. Adjacent to the Recorded Sound Reference Center is the Performing Arts Reading Room where rooms are available for listening to recordings.

Copying of recordings is not permitted, and tape recorders or other recording equipment may not be taken into the listening area. Laptop computers are permitted in the listening area. Patrons may purchase copies of recordings from the Library's Recording Laboratory only with written authorization from the rights holders.
