Acknowledgments

John R. Sellers, Library of Congress Manuscript Division Historical Specialist, Civil War and Reconstruction, was instrumental in the acquisition of the Papers of Tilton C. Reynolds, from which this online collection was derived. He oversaw the selection process, provided content expertise and guidance during production, and supervised the transcription of selected letters.

Margaret Alessi Mason, Digital Conversion Specialist, coordinated the overall production of the scanning project. She assisted in the selection of items to be digitized and provided guidance on numerous digitization, research and production issues. She also assisted in the writing of descriptive text for the Web site.

Christopher W. Copetas, Digital Conversion Specialist, coordinated the scanning of the Reynolds materials and was responsible for a variety of production activities, including the creation of database records, image quality review, the placement of delivered images into a digital repository, and rights clearance.

Special thanks to Kevin Scullin, a Library of Congress Junior Fellow who worked in the Manuscript Division during the summer of 1997. He performed much of the research for this project, transcribed a selection of letters from the collection, and wrote some of the descriptive text for the Web site.

Martha Anderson and Deborah Thomas provided guidance and support throughout the planning and production stages of this project. Elizabeth Madden and Christa Maher created and maintained a production database. Laura Graham converted the transcriptions to SGML, and David Brooks coordinated and tracked receipt of digital images. Tracey Salley was responsible for Web site design and final production, and Jurretta Jordan Heckscher copy-edited framing materials for the Web site.

Alan Haley from the Conservation Division supported the project through his evaluation and treatment of a large portion of the original materials that were scanned.

Michael Hughes, Office of the General Counsel, provided guidance for copyright issues.

Manuscript Division Preparation Section staff Paul Chestnut, Allan Teichroew, Rick Bickel, and Mary Lacy assisted in this project.

In the Library's Information Technology Services (ITS), Barak Stussman was responsible for the programming of indexing and for display of the documents.

The scanning contractor, Systems Integration Group, Inc. (SIG), of Lanham, Maryland, produced the digital images. Special acknowledgment goes to Imelda Chase and Arnold Goodman.
