Nineteen 10-inch tapes (copied from 825 wax cylinders) recorded by Robert Winslow Gordon 1922-1928 in California, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and West Virginia. Represents a cross section of American folksong including Negro blues, spirituals, and ballads, British-American ballads, gospel singing, sea chanties, recitations, and miscellaneous recordings such as the inauguration of President Coolidge. AFC 1948/053: Ella May Thornton Recording of Graham Jackson
One 16-inch disc of a story about Franklin Delano Roosevelt's funeral, "Good Bye to Warm Springs," which contains 2 songs, "How Sweet is the Air" and "Going Home," spoken and sung with accordion by Graham Jackson. Graham Jackson was a musician who often entertained Roosevelt at Warm Springs, Georgia. Recorded in Georgia by Graham Jackson, April 19, 1945. AFC 1970/001: Eleanor Dickinson Collection
One hundred eighty-one video recordings, 185 sound recordings, 90 folders of manuscripts, 157 graphic materials, and 2 artifacts documenting Protestant religious revival meetings of various denominations in the southern Appalachian region, primarily in Tennessee, West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, and Georgia. The collection includes interviews with church leaders and members of congregations, and documentation of religious services, healing services, revivals, hymn singing, sermons, snake handling, and other religious rites and customs recorded by Eleanor Dickinson from 1968 to 1991. Eight 10-inch tapes of musical performances by numerous artists including Beau Soleil, Jimmy Driftwood, John Jackson, and Ralph Stanley from folk and ethnic music and dance events celebrating the inauguration of President Jimmy Carter. Topics include agriculture, animals, community culture, crafts, foodways, gardening, legends, medicine, music, railroads, religion, tales, and wild plants. Included are interviews with Aunt Arie Carpenter and potter Lanier Meaders. Recorded by the students and staff of Foxfire in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, 1970-1973.

AFC 2000/001: Local Legacies Collection
Four hundred and five linear feet (approximately 90,000 manuscript pages, 475 sound recordings, 13,000 graphic materials, 330 electronic media, and 75 artifacts) of documentation of local festivals, fairs, parades, and other community-based events from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories and trusts. The Local Legacies Collection was donated through the efforts of individuals, organizations, and institutions asked to participate by members of Congress. Stearns, Nelly L. Brooks, Amabel Williams-Ellis, Richard Chase, Kay Chase, Maud Gentry Long, and Robert B. Bean. Included as enclosures are typescript copies, ca. 1920s, of two letters from Wm. Payne of Pierceville, Georgia, one to "Ritcherde" Jan. 13, 1902; and one to "Bill" Mar. 25, 1903. E.A. Bishop enclosed texts for two ballads, "Jonah and the whale," and "Little Mohea" (1921) and Nelly L. Brooks sent the text to "I'm as free a little bird as I can be" (1924). Two CDs containing programming produced by Laurie Sommers, director of the South Georgia Folklife Project at Valdosta State University. The CDs contain tracks drawn from field recordings from the South Georgia Folklife Project, historic field recordings from the American Folklife Center, and a few commercial recordings.
