One 16-inch disc of a story about Franklin Delano Roosevelt's funeral, "Good Bye to Warm Springs," which contains 2 songs, "How Sweet is the Air" and "Going Home," spoken and sung with accordion by Graham Jackson. Graham Jackson was a musician who often entertained Roosevelt at Warm Springs, Georgia. Recorded in Georgia by Graham Jackson, April 19, 1945. AFC 2000/001: Local Legacies Collection
Four hundred and five linear feet (approximately 90,000 manuscript pages, 475 sound recordings, 13,000 graphic materials, 330 electronic media, and 75 artifacts) of documentation of local festivals, fairs, parades, and other community-based events from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories and trusts. The Local Legacies Collection was donated through the efforts of individuals, organizations, and institutions asked to participate by members of Congress. Stearns, Nelly L. Brooks, Amabel Williams-Ellis, Richard Chase, Kay Chase, Maud Gentry Long, and Robert B. Bean. Included as enclosures are typescript copies, ca. 1920s, of two letters from Wm. Payne of Pierceville, Georgia, one to "Ritcherde" Jan. 13, 1902; and one to "Bill" Mar. 25, 1903. E.A. Bishop enclosed texts for two ballads, "Jonah and the whale," and "Little Mohea" (1921) and Nelly L. Brooks sent the text to "I'm as free a little bird as I can be" (1924). Two CDs containing programming produced by Laurie Sommers, director of the South Georgia Folklife Project at Valdosta State University. The CDs contain tracks drawn from field recordings from the South Georgia Folklife Project, historic field recordings from the American Folklife Center, and a few commercial recordings.
