AFC 1941/039: Willard Rhodes 1941 Field Recordings Collection
Seventy-six 10" and 12" discs (AFS 12097-12138) copied on 16-inch discs (AFS 9519-9543). These recordings of tribal songs were made by Willard Rhodes during July-August 1941 for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Education Division. The collections includes logs.

AFS 9548B1, AFS 9550B1-B2, AFS 9551A1-B2; AFS 9552A1-9553A4: Five discs containing 27 songs, including circle dance songs (dance of the War Bonnets), bone game songs, praise songs, songs of the Dirty Water band, ceremonial song, religious song, marriage dance, medicine bear song, medicine song rabbit dance, owl dance songs, serenade, ware dance songs (some from Sioux), root feast song, chief's song, horseback song. Performers includ John Moses, Sol Webb, Tom Johnson, Sam Luton, Ike Patrick, Luke Cowapoo, and Jesse Jones. Recorded in Pendleton, Oregon, by Willard Rhodes, summer 1947. (50 minutes)

AFS 10,094A: One tape containing Arapaho, Bannock, and Shoshone songs sung by Nenni Chedihop and Joe English. Includes sun dance songs, war dance songs, owl dance songs, a ghost dance song, victory songs, hand game songs, a ’49 song, and social dance songs. Recorded in Fort Hall, Idaho, by Willard Rhodes, summer 1950.

AFC 1969/018: National Federation of Music Clubs archive of American folk music, 1952-1963
Eighteen 7-inch, three 5-inch, and nine 3-inch tapes of folk music from Florida, Idaho, Kentucky, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Recorded by regional National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) archivists and contributors, 1931-63. Donated by Annabel M. Buchanan for the NFMC Folk Music Archive. AFS 14,739: One tape containing Nez Perce spoken word, shamans' songs, and songs from the War and Guardian Spirit dances. Recorded on the Nez Perce reservation, Idaho, by Herbert Joseph Spinden, summer 1907. Accompanying materials for this collection are located at the Peabody Museum.

AFS 20,308-20,326: Alice Fletcher Plains Indian Music on Cylinders
Nineteen 10-inch tapes of North American Plains Indian music originally recorded on cylinders in the Midwest and Washington, D.C., by Alice Cunningham Fletcher, 1896-1905. Transferred from the National Archives, 1948.

AFS 20,309 cuts 12-14: One tape containing Nez Perce war dance songs, song of chief's daughters, a war and death song, and a triumph song, performed by Chief Joseph, Harry Hayes, Levi Jonas, and Stephen "Rubin" [probably Reuben or Reubens]. Recorded in Washington, D.C., by Alice Fletcher, April 20-28, 1897 and April 6, 1900.

AFC 1986/022: Center for Applied Linguistics Collection
Fifty-nine 10-inch tapes of speech samples, linguistic interviews, oral histories, conversations, and excerpts from public speeches recorded at various locations in North America by various collectors, and compiled by the Center for Applied Linguistics for a project entitled "A Survey and Collection of American English Dialect Recordings." The collection includes fourteen linear inches of documentation, including an introduction and preface, a list of contents, content summaries, and transcripts. AFC 1997/011: Lands' End All-American Quilt Collection
Lands' End in cooperation with Good Housekeeping magazine sponsored quilt contests in 1992, 1994, and 1996. The collection,housed in 154 boxes, consists of visual images, entry blanks, and essays written by entrants, as well as Lands End administrative files and correspondence pertinent to the promotion of the contest. Approximately 13,100 entries for the three contests came from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. AFC 2000/001: Local Legacies Collection
Four hundred and five linear feet (approximately 90,000 manuscript pages, 475 sound recordings, 13,270 graphic materials, 335 electronic media, and 75 artifacts) of documentation of local festivals, fairs, parades, and other community-based events from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories and trusts. The Local Legacies Collection was donated through the efforts of individuals, organizations, and institutions asked to participate by members of Congress. AFC 2004/029: Oinkari Basque Dancers Concert Collection
Homegrown 2004 concert in Madison Hall. Collection consists of sound and video recordings of a performance by the Oinkari Basque Dancers from Boise, Idaho, a group founded in the 1960s by Basque Americans who traveled to the Basque province of Gipuzkoa in Spain to learn the dances. Manuscripts in the collection include a program flyer and additional information about the dances, dance group members, Basque settlement in Idaho, and some history of the Basques in Europe. Opening remarks made by Peggy Bulger, Director of the American Folklife Center. Deanna Marcum, Associate Director for Library Services, introduced Idaho Senator Mike Crapo who discusses Idaho’s Basque settlements. Later in the concert, Idaho Senator Larry Craig spoke about cultural diversity in the United States. [catalog record]

Digital sound recordings, video recordings, and photographs documenting a concert performed by the Basque band, Amumu Says No, in the Coolidge Auditorium, Library of Congress on July 14, 2010 as part of the Homegrown concert series sponsored by the American Folklife Center. Songs sung in the Basque language, Euskara, accompanied by trikitixa -- button accordion and tambourine -- with electric guitar, drums, folk percussion, and other instruments; with performance of Basque dances.
