U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) released the following statement today after learning of the death of Senator Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii):
“Danny Inouye was many things in life – a Pearl Harbor veteran, an American hero and Medal of Honor recipient, a leader in the United States Senate, a father, a grandfather, and a loving husband to his beautiful wife, Irene. He was a passionate leader for the people of Hawaii and spoke lovingly of the islands he called home. I was honored to serve with Danny my entire service in the United States Senate, but even more so privileged to call him my close friend. Willing to cross the aisle, Danny was a man of principle and decency who always stood up for what he thought was right. Elaine and I extend our deepest sympathies to his family, his friends, and the millions of others who were fortunate to have him in their lives. Aloha, my friend.”
