TECHNICAL NOTICE (March 10, 2006)

Additions to the MARC Code Lists for Relators, Sources, Description Conventions

The codes listed below have been recently approved for use in MARC 21 records. The codes will be added to the online MARC Code Lists for Relators, Sources, Description Conventions.

The codes should not be used in exchange records until after May 10, 2006. This 60-day waiting period is required to provide MARC 21 implementers time to include newly defined codes in any validation tables they may apply to the MARC fields where the codes are used.

MARC Term, Name, Title Sources & Other Sources

These codes are for use in subfield $2 in Bibliographic and Community Information records in fields 600-651 and 655 and field 040, subfield $f (Cataloging Source / Subject heading/thesaurus conventions) in Authority records.

• Additions:
  • raam - Register of Australian Archives & Manuscripts Occupations Thesaurus (Canberra: National Library of Australia) [use after May 10, 2006]
  • sgc - Spolŝni geslovnik COBISS.SI = COBISS.SI General List of subject headings (Slovenian subject headings) (Maribor, Slovenia: Institut informacijskih znanosti (IZUM)) [use after May 10, 2006]
  • sgce - Spolŝni geslovnik COBISS.SI = COBISS.SI General List of subject headings (English subject headings) (Maribor, Slovenia: Institut informacijskih znanosti (IZUM)) [use after May 10, 2006]
  • cct - Zhong guo fen lei zhu ti ci biao (di er ban) = Chinese Classified Thesaurus (Beijing: Guo jia tu shu guan, "Zhongguo tu shu guan fen lei fa" bian wei hui) [use after May 10, 2006]
• Changes:
  • rerovoc - Indexation matières RERO (autorités) (Martigny: Réseau des bibliothèques de Suisse occidentale) [former code: reroa] [use after May 10, 2006]

MARC Category Code Sources

The code listed below was previously defined for use in subfield $2 in Bibliographic and Community Information records in fields 600-651 and 655 and field 040, subfield $f (Cataloging Source / Subject heading/thesaurus conventions) in Authority records. Usage has been expanded to field 073 (Subdivision Usage) in Authority records.

• sao - Svenska ämnesord (Stockholm: Kungliga Biblioteket, LIBRIS-avdelningen) [use after May 10, 2006 in field 073 in Authority records]
