A collection of newspaper clippings, magazine articles, and other miscellaneous information on the subject of civil rights and race relations assembled by the Southern Education Reporting Service from 1954 to 1965. The service was founded by Southern newspaper editors and educators to provide accurate, unbiased information on developments in education following the U.S. Supreme Court opinion of 1954 which declared compulsory segregation in public schools unconstitutional. Later its aims also included similar information for other ethnic and minority groups. The material is arranged chronologically by categories and includes editorials, articles, transcripts of U.S. Supreme Court hearings, reports, editorial cartoons, speeches, pamphlets, letters to the editor, bibliographies, etc.

Memoranda from agents, office reports, letters, protest literature, and some periodical clippings, dealing not only with AIM (the American Indian Movement) but also with numerous protests, demonstrations, and government property occupations by Indians throughout the country. Most of the material is dated 1973, and nearly half of it represents coverage of the Wounded Knee incident of that year.

Some sections of reports are blacked out, and some papers are deleted entirely by an invocation of cited exemptions under the Freedom of Information Act.

Begins a continuing series that will make available to a wider audience the War Reserve Collection housed at Cambridge University. This vast collection was conceived by Francis Jenkinson in 1915 in order to preserve the cultural history of World War I, as found in personal reminiscences, trench publications, propaganda from both the Allied and German war efforts, as well as government and military records. Part 1 (7 reels) reproduces the card catalog index and manuscript listings for the entire collection. Part 2 (20 reels) covers a wide variety of newsletters, periodicals, broadsides, etc. produced by and for the troops in Europe and a few published war experiences. Future microfilm will encompass military operations 1915-1918; Russia, the Bolsheviks and the Eastern Front; peace and reconstruction; and the creation of the League of Nations.

A collection of translations of the texts of news and commentary, in full or summary form, for all areas of the world, from 1941. The source of the texts is primarily foreign broadcasts and news agency transmissions, but sometimes periodicals or newspapers are translated for this series too. The coverage is not limited to major "newsworthy" events.

The reports are issued in series, by world area. The series have changed over the years; currently there are 8 daily report series (Asia & Pacific, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Middle East & Africa, People's Republic of China, Soviet Union, South Asia, and Western Europe), with a 9th (occasional) series, "Trends in Communist Media." Each report begins with a table of contents.

GUIDE: 10, [U.S. Foreign Broadcast Information Service]. Lists microfilm numbers for series of Daily Reports from 1941 through March 1974. There is no index to reports for these years; film should be requested by date and series. From April 1974 forward, the reports were issued on microfiche. They are arranged by series and date, and filed in cabinets in the Microform Reading Room. Also, from April 1974 on, the tables of contents for each month were republished (but not cumulated) on a single microfiche. These tables of contents fiches are separately filed, in front of the reports themselves.

From the late 1970s to date, printed subject indexes have been published for each of the series. These are available in the Microform Reading Room.

The receipt of microfiche of the Daily Reports may lag several months. For the most current reports, readers should go to the Newspaper Reading Room, where the Daily Reports are kept in paper until microfiche is received.

Based on Johns Hopkins University's Fowler Architectural Collection and subsequent additions to it. The collection includes rare primary source materials and other books by important architects from the end of the 15th through the end of the 18th century. In addition to works by such Italian Renaissance architects as Alberti, Vignola, Palladio, and Serlio, the collection contains works by English, French, and German architects. Also included are volumes of plates and blockprints of contemporary designs of buildings temples, tombs, and gardens.

The collection incudes original plays, theatrical adaptations, and translations credited to over 600 playwrights, as well as satires, musical dramas, pastorals, burlesques, masques, dramatic poems, etc.

GUIDE: An index, consisting of Library of Congress catalog cards for each one of the items in the collection, was filmed at the beginning of reel one. The cards are arranged alphabetically by main entry. The volumes within the collection, and the plays within individual volumes, have no significant arrangement probably having been arranged by the collector according to size or order of acquisition. A set of the card index is kept by the shelflist in the Microform Processing unit.

Microfiche reproductions of 18th and 19th century primary and secondary sources relating to the French Revolution, issued 1783-1897. Sources were chosen by academics and microfilmed in cooperation with the Bibliotheque Nationale. Formats include published and unpublished documents: books, periodicals and newspapers, pamphlets, and manuscripts.

Although the finished project will include 7,861 microfiche, arranged by subject in twelve numbered sections, the Library of Congress has currently (12/94) only five of the twelve: (1) Newspapers; (2) Memoirs and autobiographies; (3) Basic printed collections; (5) the Pre-Revolutionary Debate; and (8) Religion. Each section will be accompanied by a guide written by an academic in the field of French Revolutionary Studies. Guides include scope, selection guidelines, arrangement of each fiche, bibliographic descriptions, and indexes.

Handwritten vital records of the Society of Friends, or Quakers, dating from 1575 to 1857 from 26 regional districts, called Quarterly Meetings, in England and Wales. Besides the dates for births, marriages, deaths, and burials, the information identifies the places where the member was born, lived, attended monthly meetings, and was buried, as well as the age and occupation.

The records are arranged by the area of the Quarterly Meeting, and thereafter alphabetically by surnames of individuals--infants, mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, and deceased.
