Tom Carper became Delaware's Junior U.S. Senator in January 2001 after serving two terms as State Governor and five terms as Delaware's Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives. Carper completed five years of service as a Naval Flight Officer, serving in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He went on to serve another 18 years in the Reserves, achieving the rank of Captain. His story reflects the incredibly high standards he set for himself and his flight comrades.
