Merchant Marine sailors, manning transport ships, were easy targets during World War II. Transporting goods across the North Atlantic, from the United States to Europe, proved critical to the war effort but often lethal to the Merchant Marine sailors. Wearing no military uniform, and unattached to any Allied unit, the merchant seamen demonstrated the determination shown in this poster. Many sailed on one of the 2,700 Liberty Ships constructed in American shipyards to replace those vessels sunk by the enemy. Medium : 1 print (poster) : color Created/Published : 1942 Housed in the Prints & Photographs Division of the Library of Congress Availability: Usually ships in 3-4 business days.
