The text begins: "The National Organising Committee for War Savings appeals against extravagance in women's dress. ...It is essential, not only that money should be saved, but that labour employed in the clothing trades should be set free." This World War I poster is an example of the British governments appeal to its citizens to sacrifice levels of personal comfort on behalf of the war effort. Similar appeals appeared in the United States for both World War's.
