The broad aerial image takes in the John Adams building going west to the Lincoln Memorial and on to Arlington, VA. On the east side of the Capitol Building you can see the work being done on the visitors center, due to open in December, 2008. The large program on the Mall is the Veteran's History Project, a program sponsored by the Library of Congress. The red roofs on the right are what is called the Federal Triangle, a dedicated complex of federal buildings. Down the left side of the Mall you can see the Smithsonian "Castle" built in the early 1850's. On any given day on the Mall you can see people strolling and enjoying themselves to marches and programs with several hundred thousand participants. Carol Highsmith, the distinguished photographer, has comprehensively photographed the interior of the Thomas Jefferson building and along with much of her other work, has donated them to the Library of Congress.
