ruction project conducted by the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. When the new spillway, which is actually another dam, is complete it will address dam safety and improve flood protection. It is the first time two federal agencies have come together on a project of this size. I also toured several critical security enhancements.

I am pleased with the work being accomplished up to this point and the security improvements that are being made. This joint project has come a long way since its beginning in 2008. For everyone down river of Folsom Dam, flood protection is a very serious concern.

Until we see this project to conclusion, we remain a more serious flooding threat than New Orleans in 2005 during Hurricane Katrina, as well as recently during Hurricane Isaac’s assault. In addition to the natural hazards of being at the convergence of so many rivers during the rainy season, Folsom Dam must be protected from man-made or terroristic threats. The safety of the Sacramento Region is at stake.

  13. Lungren said it’s ironic when a business owner with disabilities (such as Dority) is targeted by an ADA-compliance lawsuit.

“The irony is someone who is disabled and making a go of it to build a business that is sued for not making their businesses accessible to the disabled, is amazing,” he said.

  15. Though Neil Armstrong is best known for being the first astronaut and American to step on the surface of the moon we should not forget that he dedicated much of this life in service to our country. He was an American classic, a reluctant hero who avoided the limelight while serving as an engineer, fighter pilot, test pilot and astronaut. We all can learn from his example of greatness wrapped in humility.
