WASHINGTON,
DC - The U.S. Senate has approved, by a vote of 62 to 32, an amended version of
H.R. 1, Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Assistance. The Supplemental
responds to Hurricane Sandy, as well as other natural disasters that have
occurred over the past year. H.R. 1 now returns to the House for its
consideration.
Chairwoman
Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) issued the following statement upon final passage
of the measure:
"Today
the Senate came together to pass the Emergency Supplemental with a strong,
bipartisan vote. We showed that in America, we truly believe we are all in this
together - that when one community is hit by a disaster, all communities are
hit. This bill meets compelling human needs created when Superstorm Sandy hit
our shores. But it's already been two months and the clock is ticking. We've
got businesses that need restarting and homes that need rebuilding. I call upon
the House to take up and pass this measure before the 112th Congress adjourns."
