Obtaining Government Documents

A number of federal documents are readily available online, largely through three public resources – the Government Printing Office, the Library of Congress's Thomas website, and the federal agency sites.

DOCUMENT ROOM

The House of Representatives Document Room provides free-of-charge copies of various congressional documents, including bills and concurrent or joint resolutions. To request materials, call its office at 202.226.5210 or e-mail the Document Room at Hdocs@mail.house.gov.

GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE

The Government Printing Office grants access to documents, including the Congressional Record, laws, and the reports from most federal agencies and departments. Fees do apply. To request materials, call its office at 202.512.1800.

GAO REPORTS

Government Accountability Reports are available on the Government Accountability Office's (GAO) website.
