How Long is Postal Mail Delayed?

After several letters containing Anthrax were received in the Senate in 2002, new mail security procedures were implemented. These procedures add 1-2 weeks to the amount of time it takes for your letter to reach our Washington, D.C. office. Letters are first sent to a remote screening facility and irradiated.

Will the security irradiation damage the items I send?

Probably. The radiation can destroy video and audio tapes, CDs, and other sensitive items.

Are Fed-Ex/UPS Deliveries Also Delayed?

Letters sent by express delivery (FedEx, etc) are also delayed by several weeks. If your message is urgent, contact us by phone, fax, or email.

For Help with a Federal Government Agency (Social Security, Veterans Benefits, Medicare, Passports, etc.)

Can Senator Klobuchar help me resolve a problem with a federal agency?

We'll certainly try.

First, find out if we'll be able to help with your specific problem by reviewing our Help with Federal Agencies page or call one our Minnesota Offices. Over the phone we may be able to determine if we can help you.

Second, to begin any work on your case you must first fill out our Casework Privacy Release web form, or fax the downloadable Casework Privacy Release form to our Minnesota Office, whichever is most convenient.

These forms will ask you to submit a brief written statement, describing the problem you’re experiencing and requesting the Senator's assistance. Please include all your contact information as well as any case or claim numbers associated with the problem (such as a Social Security number).

Visiting Washington, DC

I'm planning a trip to Washington, D.C. Can Senator Klobuchar Help?

Yes. Senator Klobuchar can request, on your behalf, tour tickets to several attractions. Our website also provides details on museums and other places to see in our Visiting Washington, D.C. Section. If you will be in Washington, D.C. on a Thursday morning when the Senate is in session, we invite you to come to Minnesota Morning to visit with Senator Klobuchar.

Minnesota Mornings

What is Minnesota Morning?

Every Thursday morning when the Senate is in session (see schedule), Senator Klobuchar invites Minnesota residents to join her for coffee. This “get acquainted” session is an opportunity to meet the Senator during the work week in Washington.

What happens at the Minnesota Morning?

Minnesota Morning is an opportunity for all Minnesotans who are visiting our nation's capital to meet with Senator Klobuchar and hear a first-hand account of her work in the U.S. Senate on behalf of the great state of Minnesota. It's also a chance to mix and mingle with fellow Minnesotans, catch up with her staff, and take a few snapshots with the Senator and ask her some questions.

How do I sign up?

Do I need to dress up for the morning coffee with the Senator?

No. Some guests are here on business. Others are here on vacation. It is not necessary to dress up for Minnesota Morning.

Should I bring my camera so I can get a picture taken with the Senator?

Yes. If you are unable to bring a camera, our staff takes photos and then will make them available online for you to download.

Can I bring my kids to Minnesota Morning? Are students welcome?

Absolutely. Senator Klobuchar hopes young people will take advantage of this opportunity to connect with their government and share their views.

Will I have time to discuss a specific issue with Senator Klobuchar?

Because of time constraints, the coffee is a “get acquainted” meeting. You will likely have an opportunity to ask a question or make a comment, but this not an opportunity for a detailed discussion that takes time away from other constituents.

Requesting a Capitol Flag

Can I get an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol?

Yes. At your request, Senator Klobuchar will have an American flag flown over the U.S. Capitol Building for you. If requested early enough, your flag can be flown on a specific date, and you can receive a certificate to mark the occasion (birthday, retirement from military service, etc). The cost you pay depends on the size of the flag, the type of flag (cotton or nylon), and whether you want it flown over the Capitol building.

How do I send payment for my flag?

Print out the flag request form and follow its mailing instructions. Once you have printed a form, please include a check or money order made payable to: 'KEEPER OF THE STATIONERY.' Please note that our office is unable to process any requests without payment and we cannot accept checks more than 90 days in advance of the date a flag is flown.

Should I send a flag to Senator Klobuchar?

No. Fill out our flag request form attach your check and mail it to our Washington, D.C. office. Our office will get the flag, have it flown, and mail it to you.

Can my flag certificate say my flag was flown on one date, even if it was actually flown on another date?

No. The Capitol Flag Office will only print the certificate with the date the flag was actually flown.

How long will it take to get a flag from your office?

After you send your check, and the hard copy of your request, it will take 3-5 weeks for the mail to go through screening and get to our office. We can bring your flag to be flown over the Capitol within 2 weeks of the date you request. Once it has flown, it takes 6-8 weeks for us to get your flag back and mail it back to you. Overall, it takes between 11 and 15 weeks after you mail your flag request.
