Adobe Bridge for Federal Publishers (New!) (Online Live only) 

This half-day course shows how to maximize your use of Adobe Bridge’s tools. Adobe Bridge is the free asset management program that is installed with most of Adobe’s other software such as InDesign and Photoshop. Federal publishers will learn how to manage and view their creative assets including graphics files, PDFs, Office documents, photographs, videos, and more. Topics include:

  • Streamlining your production workflow with Bridge’s drag-and-drop tools;
  • Customizing Bridge’s workspace panels for your needs;
  • Viewing and editing a file’s metadata, including Alt-text for Section 508 Accessibility requirements;
  • Viewing and editing a file’s data, including size, pixels, resolution, colorspace (RGB vs CMYK), creation/edited dates, copyright, and more; and
  • Batch processing features including renaming files and customized metadata templates

Prerequisites: None.

This seminar is designed for anyone who uses Adobe Creative Suite software, including: designers, desktop publishers, production managers, managing editors, website developers, visual information specialists, audio/visual specialists, and photographers.

Intermediate InDesign (Long Documents) for Federal Publishers (New!) (Online Live only) 

This course focuses on critical advanced features for long documents, including multi-chapter books, pagination, tables, indexes, tables of contents, and templates. By the end of the class, you will have completed a multi-chapter book with the above features.

Prerequisites: Adobe InDesign Basics or similar course or work experience.

This is an intermediate-level class only for experienced InDesign users who are able to create a basic document — including master pages, paragraph styles, and character styles — from scratch.

508 Compliance Using Adobe InDesign (New!) (Online Live only) more details

This hands-on best practices course teaches Federal publishers how to create not only press-quality files, but also accessible Section 508-compliant PDFs from their InDesign layout files. It focuses on strategies, techniques and workflow process that will help you prepare InDesign files for Section 508 accessibility. As a bonus, many of these techniques are also used in XML publishing, web publishing, content management systems (CMS), and Adobe’s new digital publishing services (DPS) for iPads and tablets, as well as search engine optimization (SEO).

Prerequisites: Adobe InDesign Basics or similar course or work experience.

This is an intermediate-level class only for experienced InDesign users who are able to create a basic document — including master pages, paragraph styles, and character styles — from scratch. It is for desktop publishers who seek to master Section 508 compliance regulations for InDesign layout files, including: designers, desktop publishers, and visual information specialists.

508-Compliant Fillable Forms for Federal Publishers (Online Live) more details

This concentrated hands-on course teaches how to properly create and edit Adobe PDF documents for access by users with disabilities. Students will learn:

  • How to create accessible, fillable PDF forms in Acrobat Professional; and
  • Test and remediate accessibility problems.

Prerequisites: 508 Compliance Using Adobe Acrobat and MS Word or similar coursework. This is an introductory-level course and students must have knowledge of accessibility requirements, accessible PDFs, and accessible documents.

This class is designed for anyone involved in creating government forms, including: designers, desktop publishers, managing editors, website developers, forms developers, and accessibility specialists.

508 Compliance Using Adobe Acrobat & MS Word for Federal Publishers (Online Live) more details

Learn the federal guidelines for Section 508 compliant documents in this basic foundation course for accessible documents. Topics include:

  • Section 508 standards and guidelines;
  • The features that make a document or PDF accessible;
  • How to test PDF files for accessibility;
  • Remediate existing PDFs and make them accessible;
  • Add user-friendly features to PDFs;
  • Best practices for creating source documents in MS Word;
  • How to construct MS Word documents that are 508-accessible; and
  • Export 508-accessible PDFs from MS Word.

Prerequisites: None, other than basic computer skills.

This class is designed for anyone involved in creating government documents, including: designers, desktop publishers, production managers, managing editors, authors, website developers, visual information specialists, and accessibility specialists.

SF1 and GPO Forms and Billing Training Webinar (Online Live)

This free 2 hr session will prepare you to accurately complete and submit GPO's most-used and most versatile form. Students will learn how to ensure that project specifications are accurately represented with each job submission. Course material will also address GPO billing procedures. This is a great orientation for new GPO users as well as a good refresher for seasoned GPO agency customers.

In this introductory course, students will learn the basics and background of FDsys, including information on how to navigate the site, what resources are available to users, and instruction on important features such as basic searching, browsing, the Help function, and more.

Discover the Benefits of GPO’s Federal Digital System (FDsys): Advanced Navigation
In this advanced course, students will learn advanced searching and browsing techniques for FDsys, specialized tips and tricks for using the site, and receive focused instruction on tracking legislation and regulations. Students wishing to take the Advanced Navigation course must first complete the Introduction to FDsys course.

Note: the FDsys introductory Course is a pre-requisite for the Advanced Navigation Course.
