Hatch Opposes Supplemental Spending Measure

Utah Senator Says, “Hurricane Sandy was a disaster by every measure, but this legislation distracts from the task of rebuilding by spending too much on unrelated items.”

U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) today opposed a supplemental spending measure that isn’t focused enough on disaster relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

“Hurricane Sandy was a disaster by every measure, but this legislation distracts from the task of rebuilding by spending too much on unrelated items,” said Hatch.

The $60.4 billion supplemental spending bill includes funding for several items that have nothing to do with rebuilding the region that was hit by Hurricane Sandy, such as fisheries in Alaska and Mississippi, the National Park Service's historic preservation fund, and unrelated infrastructure projects in foreign countries.
