Copyright Office Announces Public Hearing

Section 302 of the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act (STELA) requires the Copyright Office to prepare a report for Congress addressing possible mechanisms, methods, and recommendations for phasing out the statutory licensing requirements set forth in sections 111, 119, and 122 of the Copyright Act. On March 3, 2011, the Office published a Notice of Inquiry in the Federal Register seeking comments on issues related to this study (76 FR 11816). On June 10, 2011, the Office will conduct a public hearing on the issues raised in the section 302 notice to complement the comments and reply comments submitted in this proceeding. Interested persons must inform the Office of their intention to testify no later than 5:00 pm eastern daylight time on May 27, 2011. Participants may provide written testimony, which must be submitted by noon on June 8, 2011, eastern daylight time. Suggested written questions for possible use by Copyright Office panel members during the course of the hearing may also be submitted by noon on June 8, 2011, eastern daylight time.
