Ellison on Republican ‘Plan B’ Failure: Allow a Vote on a Fair Deal |
December 21, 2012 |
“Instead of Plan A—a bipartisan agreement with the President—Speaker Boehner tried to bring a Tea Party wish list to the floor last night known as ‘Plan B.’ Speaker Boehner's failure to pass 'Plan B' shows that the extreme wing of the Republican Conference stand firmly on the side of millionaires and billionaires, at the expense of the American middle class. “The American people voted for fairness in November. Progressives have been fighting for an agreement that asks the wealthiest among us pay their fair share, and protects benefits our grandparents, veterans, and children rely on. With Republicans in Congress unable to even ask millionaires to pay their fair share, any agreement to meet our year-end deadlines will now need the support of progressives to pass. I hope Speaker Boehner will listen to the American people and allow a vote on a fair deal." |
