First-Person Narratives of the American South, 1860-1920

Building the Digital Collection

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill received an award in the 1996/97 round of the Library of Congress/Ameritech National Digital Library Competition to support the transcription and markup of these texts. As encouraged by the guidelines, the converted files, including scanned images of illustrations, are maintained at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as part of the digital library project, Documenting the American South. Bibliographic records (in MARC format) were delivered to the Library of Congress for indexing as part of American Memory. The records include links to presentations of the texts at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
