The most comprehensive discussion and listing of panoramic maps is found in John W. Reps, Views and Viewmakers of Urban America: Lithographs of Towns and Cities in the United States and Canada, Notes on the Artists and Publishers, and a Union Catalog of their Work, 1825-1925 (Columbia: University of Missouri Press, 1984). Besides listing extensive bibliographic data for over 4,400 different views, Reps provides background information about the compilation and business production of these views, including a discussion of the number of views published. He also provides biographical information about the individual artists.
