We learned late on Friday that this blog has been nominated as a finalist for the “SXSW Web Awards” (in the “blog” category). The category recognizes blogs created in 2007 that “revolutionize the power of publishing by providing regularly updated content of a personal or professional nature.”
Wow. “Revolutionize” sounds so, I don’t know, high-pressure. When we started this little venture, we did it for many of the same sometimes-mundane reasons other people blog: to reach people on a more personal level, and to talk with them, not at them.
Ironically, at the time we launched, one of the entities that should arguably be among the most responsive to its constituencies–the federal government–had been one of the slowest to adopt this tool of ultimate responsiveness. In fact, as far as I could tell in April 2007, ours was the first blog that was attempting to tell a federal agency-wide story.
So while on one hand it might seem common-sense, I guess it might be a tiny bit revoluntionary. Hopefully it will send a positive message to those who haven’t yet dipped a toe into the bloggy waters.
Congrats to all of the other nominees, and I promise not to “pull a Faith Hill” when the awards are announced.

Matt, I’ll see you in Austin at the award show. Regardless of whether the LoC wins or not, the first round of celebratory drinks are on me.

Great news, and well-deserved imho
I came here originally for the cataloguing stuff (for ‘Catalogue & Index’ and its blog) and stayed for that plus everything else you give us – especially all the history.
Hoorah and well done to you!

Congrats to the LOC! I was at the awards ceremony at SXSW last year and you’ll have a wonderful time. It’s a fun and informal affair with delicious TexMex food and free-flowing beverages. You’re in excellent company, too, since SXSW honors really unique and innovative sites.

Congrads on the nomination. I think the fact that such a large gov agency is doing such a good job blogging thats the âRevolutionizeâ? part of the blog.

I use this blog and the LoC Flickr set in my workshop for librarians, “Writing for the Web.” The voice, the humor, the accessibility… it’s as if the IRS came to life. Thank you for a terrific blogging model, and I really hope you win.

With all due respect, your blog is fine, but I don’t think it’s the best among the feds. I think the LOC name got you some added attention.
