The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, with more books, recordings, photographs, and maps than any other library. Since the earliest days of the Internet, the Library has been a leader in making resources available online.

As our online collections have grown, so has the challenge of communicating the totality of materials available. The Browse by Topic pages use broad categories to organize a substantial portion of the Library's publicly available digital collections, whether digitized or born digital. The intent is to provide the general public with a bird's-eye view of many of the materials that are immediately available for viewing and downloading from the Library of Congress Web site. Additional resources are being added on an ongoing basis.

Because Browse by Topic represents only collections of digital materials, users will not find links to individual digital items within those collections. Also excluded are records for physical holdings for which the Library does not offer digital surrogates. Depending on the nature of these resources, they may be found by using the search boxes that appear throughout the Library's site, or by searching the Library's
