If Your Local Office is Closed

If your local Social Security office is closed, be aware that many services are available online.

If you had a scheduled appointment, please call 1-800-772-1213 for assistance.

You also can do business with Social Security over the phone by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY number, 1-800-325-0778).
 

Emergency Payments

If you do not receive your regularly scheduled payment from Social Security as a result of severe weather or other emergencies, in most cases you can go to any open Social Security office and request an immediate payment. To find the nearest open Social Security office, call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).

new  Important Information for Social Security Employees

If you are a Social Security employee and live in the Boston, New York or Philadelphia Regions and have been affected by Hurricane Sandy, there are circumstances under which you may receive special allowances for travel and subsistence. If you live in an area that has been evacuated as a result of the hurricane, or if your home is uninhabitable, please call 1-866-772-2996.

We will staff the telephones from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Someone will answer the telephone and advise you of whether you meet the criteria and what we can do to support you during this difficult time.
