Interestingly, it wasn't inside of the city borders when this picture was created.

1992 the church was destroyed by arson, reconstruction of an exact copy was completed in 1997:

Es la iglesia mas antigua que he visto!Me encanta Bergen!

The church in the picture (destroyed 1992), originally came from Fortun in Sogn and was built around 1200 AC. A new church was built there in 1883 and the old one was for sale. Consul F.G. Gade in Bergen bought it and restored it at Fantoft. But now in quite another exterior than it had at Fortun. He used Borgund stavchurch at Lærdal as a modell and copied many details from there.
The original at Borgund, built around 1150 AC, still stands in its original status.

Very sorry to hear that the original was destroyed. I believe I visited this as a child in 1959, along with several others that we saw while traveling between Bergen, Molde, and then south to Oslo.

Fantoft stave church is a stave church in the borough Fana in Bergen. It is a reconstruction of the church that was put on fire by fanatics and burned down in 1992.
The church was originally built around 1150 and stood in Fortun in Sogn. Consul Frederick G. Gade bought the medieval part of the church and then moved it in sections and rebuilt it on Fantoft in 1883.
