    i believe his legs were bent at that reclining angle because they were too long to sit comfortably in the chair otherwise.

    @iso and lotusmonger: At nearly 6'4" he was a giant among men at that time. Historically, furniture was much smaller then as it now as the population was not as tall. So uncomfortable... certainly.

    Interesting to note that this photo was taken exactly one hundred years and 15 days before another President was assassinated (also felled by a bullet to the head.)
