  • More likely from cigarette smoke. When they cleaned off the ceiling of Grand Central Terminal they found out the soot wasn't from coal, but tar and nicotine - suburbannation

    ElizabethMartin, the detail is still visible in the restored version. Flickr just has a bad habit of making the thumbnails darker than the original image.
